Over the past few years, SEO has greatly evolved, particularly since Google’s Panda and Penguin’s updates. Here are a few pieces of advice that will help optimize your website and improve positioning on search engines, to reach your clients more easily.
Choose your keywords precisely
Keywords choice is key. Keywords must be relevant, and able to convert and position well on search engines. Try using a maximum of variations, adjectives and synonyms. Finally, try long tail keywords as well.
Make sure your website is optimized for search engines
To be efficient, your website must follow a set of rules: its URL’s are optimized; its META-tags, alt and H1 tags are done; rich snippets have been added to each product; the website is optimized for mobile; pages load quickly; there is no Flash technology on your page. The list goes on. Edit your content regularly. There is no need to change or modify your content all at once. Show that your website is active by updating the content on a regular basis, by publishing new content or new pages, for instance.
Don’t over-SEO your website.
The over-optimization of a website with a great number of keywords will have little or no impact on your positioning; it could even cause more harm than good. Keyword stuffing can be penalized by search engines.
Use social media
Nowadays, social media are one of the factors that influence positioning the most. Be present on social media and, above all, publish new, interesting content regularly for your visitors.
Always use SEO and SEM
Being Number 1 on search engines such as Google is not always enough. Adwords regularly take up considerable space in front of organic results. In fact, Adwords represent more than 20% of all clicks. Also, an Adwords campaign will give you a better idea of which keywords are most efficient and, therefore, have the best chance at converting.
Don’t neglect PR and link building
The most difficult part: make people talk about you on the Web. Be present on business directories and professional associations, exchange links with your business partners. You may also offer articles, presentations, videos or blank books that your visitors would want to share. Finally, do not hesitate to comment on places where you can add a link to your website.
